During the period of the Christmas festivities, Sorrento acquires a somewhat particular atmosphere due to the religious fervour that pervades the souls of the Sorrentini, when they express the highest sentiment of the religious faith. This vortex of emotion is shown in the local Neapolitan tradition of crib making. Lighting up of the Christmas illuminations and the big Christmas Tree with Alex the Lion from the film “Madagascar 2″.

From 1st to 5th December 2008 - Armida Theatre and Hilton Sorrento Palace
31st Edition of the Professional Days of Cinema event; national première of the new Dreamworks film “Madagascar 2″; 4 days of film premières at the Armida Theatre in Sorrento. Admission by invitation.

Thursday 4/12/2008 at 7 pm - Villa Fiorentino
Inauguration of the Show “Naples, art capital from the 1950s to today”, a painting exhibition organized by the art gallery, Arteteka, of Torre del Greco. The Show will be open daily from 9 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 9 pm until 8th January 2009. Entrance free.

Saturday 6/12/2008 at 8.30 pm - Tasso Theatre
Jazz concert “Homage to the great Max Roach” with Tullio De Piscopo and his band. Guest star the American vibraphone player, Dave Samuels. Entrance free.

The Small Sorrento Orchestra in “Neapolitan Concert”, a selection of Neapolitan music and songs. Free entrance.

Concert with Oscar winner Luis Bacalov accompanied by the “Giuseppe Tartini” Orchestra. Entrance free.

Saturday 13/12/2008 at 8.30 pm - Hall of the Tourist Office Sorrento/Sant’Agnello
The Small Sorrento Orchestra in Concert with “Cinema Serenade”, a selection of film music. Entrance free.

Friday 19/12/2008 at 8.30 pm - Tasso Theatre
Gigi Finizio in concert. Admission by invitation.

The “Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti” in concert with classical and contemporary music. Entrance free.

The Small Sorrento Orchestra in concert with “Christmas Forever”, a selection of Christmas music. Entrance free.

Tuesday 30/12/2008 from 6 pm - Itinerant Parade
A parade with the University of Nebraska - Kearney (USA) band; an itinerant show through the streets of Sorrento with finale in Piazza Tasso. Followed by entertainment with the lighting up of the “Donkey of fire” and a rendition of the “Song of New Year” with the partecipation of the members of the public.

Classical music concert from the Symphony Orchestra of the Sorrento Concert Society. Entrance free.
